Peening Overview Dr. John Cammett |
Are you fairly new to the world of shot peening? This introductory class explains the history and basic theory of peening as well as examines common reasons to peen. |
| 09:45 10:25 |
Media Specifications Jack Champaigne |
This class examines the acceptable forms of media used in peening as well as proper media selection and maintenance. |
| 10:25 10:40 |
Morning Break | Beverages and snacks are provided to attendees. |
| 10:40 12:00 |
Proper Coverage and Masking Jack Champaigne |
Coverage, too much or too little can be detrimental. Learn how to measure and control coverage by evaluating samples of % covered. Also see when and how to pick different types of masking. |
| 12:00 13:00 |
Lunch Break | Lunch is provided to workshop attendees for no additional charge. |
| 13:00 13:55 |
Peening Intensity Basics Jack Champaigne |
This class will introduce the concept of peening intensity and how it is measured using Almen strips, holders and gages. Almen’s patent, granted in 1944, and the SAE guidelines are reviewed. The saturation curve and the 10% rule is explained and guidelines for new set-ups and verification trials for peening intensity are discussed. |
| 13:55 14:50 |
Peening Applications and Equipment Dr. John Cammett |
Examine various peening applications and the equipment used. |
| 14:50 15:10 |
Afternoon Break | Beverages and snacks are provided to attendees. |

The Science of Peening Dr. John Cammett |
This advanced class dives into the science of peening. This session is recommended for production engineers, supervisors and quality personnel. |
| 16:05 17:00 |
Media Size and Quality Inspection Practice Dave Barkley |
The quality of the shot peening process starts with quality media. This course offers a hands-on demonstration of inspecting media for both size and shape quality. A modern "RoTap" machine will demonstrate sieving for size inspection and microscope images will be used for shape analysis. |

| 09:50 break @10:30 11:05 |
Advanced Intensity Jack Champaigne |
This presentation reviews the basic concepts of basic saturation curves and then offers three practice saturation curves that students will develop. How to choose the correct Almen strip exposure time for the saturation curve is discussed.. EI's free curve solver program will also be demonstrated. |
| 11:05 12:00 |
Residual Stress Measurement Dr. John Cammett |
This session will explain the measurement of residual stress, the types of equipment, basic techniques and how obtained information can optimize and qualify the shot peening process. |
