This class will introduce the concept of peening intensity and how it is measured using Almen strips, holders and gages. Almen’s patent, granted in 1944, and the SAE guidelines are reviewed. The saturation curve and the 10% rule is explained and guidelines for new set-ups and verification trials for peening intensity are discussed. |

The quality of the shot peening process starts with quality media. This course offers a hands-on demonstration of inspecting media for both size and shape quality. A modern "RoTap" machine will demonstrate sieving for size inspection and microscope images will be used for shape analysis. |

This presentation reviews the basic concepts of basic saturation curves and then offers three practice saturation curves that students will develop. How to choose the correct Almen strip exposure time for the saturation curve is discussed.. EI's free curve solver program will also be demonstrated. |

This class goes over the specifics about the Flapper Peening process. Prerequisites for this class are the basic intensity and coverage classes. Workshop participants interested in being certified for Flapper Peening (FAA #AGL/1207/0005/8) will be required to take part in a hands on practical conducted after a written exam. |
