Flapper peening (also called "roto-peening") is a shot peening process that's ideal for peening in small and hard-to-reach areas. Flapper peening, first developed by 3M Corporation in the 1960s for US Army helicopter field repair during the Vietnam war, is widely used in the aerospace industry today.
