Engineering Information & Announcements

The links below provide information on special features, changes and improvements to MagnaValves and Controls.

1000 series MagnaValves discontinued
The 1000 series MagnaValves has been discontinued. The special magnet used for this valve is no longer available. For direct replacement on existing systems use the following:

1000 series Direct Replacement
1477 477D
1478 478D
1479 479D
1577 577D
1578 578D
1579 579D

24 Volt series MagnaValves available in 2003
Magnavalves and controls will be available in 2003 using 24 Vdc power (supplied by customer). This change will result in lower cost and weight savings as well as reduce the amount of heat generated in the customer control panel. The use of 24 Vdc has become more popular and represents a significant reduction in electrical safety hazard. MagnaValve models VLP-24 and LP-24 will be the first products converted and then the air blast series 578-24 etc will be available. Note: the remote set-point analog inputs and recorder outputs are in the 0-10 Vdc format. Early data sheets were incorrectly marked 0-5 Vdc.

VLP-24 and LP-24 MagnaValves to work on 0-10 Vdc format

The analog flow rate command to model VLP and LP MagnaValve, originally 0-5 Vdc from the POT-24 power pak , has been changed to 0-10 Vdc. The POT-24 power pak will now generate a 0-10 Vdc output signal. A small number of VLP-24 MagnaValves shipped prior to July 1, 2003 with the 0-5 Vdc control range. These will still work with the newer 0-10 Vdc POT-24 since the output limit is adjustable. However, if a replacement VLP-24 MagnaValve with the 0-10 Vdc format is installed you will also have to upgrade the POT-24 power pak to the 0-10 Vdc version.

Generic or Special calibration of MagnaValves

The 24 Vdc series of MagnaValves will be offered with generic or special calibration. The VLP-24, LP-24, 250P and 500P will be calibrated using S-230 hard cast steel shot. Changing shot sizes or types will have a small effect on the calibration accuracy therefore special calibrations can be performed upon request. Contact the factory for details.

MagnaValve Test Panels available to OEM's

A special test panel is available to qualified OEM customers that wish to maintain their own inventory of MagnaValves and Controls. The test panel will accomodate both standard and 24 Vdc controls and MagnaValves. The purpose of the test panel is to help determine if there is a problem in the control or the valve prior to sending the product back to Electronics for evaluation/repair. The test panel includes an electronic timer to allow running one-minute catch-and-weigh tests. For an image of the test panel click here.Cost of the test panel is $5,000 (does not include controllers or MagnaValves) and it may be leased for $500/month.

Product Training available at Electronics Inc.

Electronics Inc is now able to offer product training to qualified OEM's at our new facilities on Magnetic Drive in Mishawaka. Personnel involved with installation, configuration, specification or maintenance of MagnaValves can receive specialized training in the operation, set-up, calibration and trouble-shooting of all types of MagnaValves and Controls using the test panel described above. This special program takes two days and includes theory and practice with hands-on experience. There is no fee for this training but pre-registration is required. You are responsible for your own transportation, lodging and meals. Call for registration and assistance in lodging.

Problems with 90-240 Vac versions of AC and FC controls

Attempts to provide a universal mains power supply operation have proven to be unsatisfactory. The internal switching-mode power supply developed overheating problems that would result in either blinking the display on-off or in extreme cases overheating of the AC or FC control. For more information see the description of the units and the affected serial numbers click here.

Valve Driver Chart

This chart will illustrate the various styles of valve driver modules used with MagnaValves. A valve driver module is a special circuit located at the MagnaValve that regulates the dc current used to cancel the permanent magnetic field. The current level is factory set to achieve zero gauss magnetic field when the control signal is at 100% duty cycle (red led constantly "ON"). The factory setting is listed on the label as N. F. for neutral field current. To check for proper operation of the valve driver provide a 100% signal from the controller and measure the dc current going to the valve. It should be within 10% of the value stated on the tag. When the valve driver is functioning properly there should be no magnetic field a no shot should remain within the MagnaValve.
