Almen Gages should be calibrated annually to assure proper performance.
We can perform all the necessary measurements to ensure compliance to standard or special Almen gage requirements. We use templates and step blocks certified traceable to NIST for all of our conformity tests. (1). Allow approximately 1-week for calibration.

| Some Older Gage Parts Not Available |
| The brass plate used to mount the 4 balls
on this old gage style is no longer available to us. If the balls
are in good condition--no flat spot-- then the gage can proceed into
calibration. If the balls have worn flat spots the gage CANNOT be
serviced and will be returned to you for no-charge. (note: we accept gages on trade-in for new gages. We use the old gages at our annual Workshop for the session on Almen gage practice. Call for details) |
|

|
Note: this gage does not qualify for SAE J442 or AMS 2430 or AMS 2432 since it does not have .0001" resolution.

| Original Almen Gage |
|
If you have an ORIGINAL ALMEN GAGE, as shown in the drawing
(right) from Almen's patent, we will trade you a brand new TSP-3
gage.
Other than patent drawings, we have never seen an original Almen
gage and this would be nice to have in the museum.

Almen's patent was issued in June of 1943 but General Motors changed the design in November of 1942 and that's how we have the #2 Almen gage with four-ball support instead of two knife edges. |
